- GHANA
Established: July 1993, Accra, Ghana
Founding Co-ordinator: Seth Asare Newman
Inaugural AGM: August 1996
Current CDF Co-ordinator: Seth Asare Newman
CDF Ghana has found that dance is a very strong medium for reaching out with the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since January 1995, at least one evening every month Seth Newman and his group choose a popular spot in town, at which to perform both traditional and choreographed African dances to African music with Christian words. They continue to perform while an audience gathers, introducing each piece with a minute or two of comments on what the piece is about, if a traditional dance, telling them where the dance comes from. After about an hour's performance, in a five minutes' summary, an invitation is thrown to the crowd for those who as a result of what they have seen would want to give their lives to Jesus. It is always exciting to see the number of people who respond.
Prophecy: A road is there in front of you which is straight, narrow and bathed in light. The way will open up as you go step by step. Keep your focus on Jesus and his call.
Formation Scripture:
"Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn"
– Isaiah 60:3 - KENYA
Established: July 1999, Nidhwa, Homa Bay Dist, Kenya
Founding Co-ordinators: Daniel and Christine Oyoko
CDF Kenya held their formation meeting under a shelter in the middle of a field not far from Lake Victoria in Western Kenya. The Committee of 11 men and 1 woman are led by Co-ordinators Daniel and Christine Oyoko, who have battled to run this CDF without phone, electricity or close transportation. Daniel and Christine have the vision to move to Nairobi, and while they wait on God for the right opportunities, they move in the areas close to their present home teaching and introducing CDFK.
The formation scripture was chosen after Daniel, Christine and Formation Co-ordinator Mary Jones all independently received a prophetic picture/movement of a seed growing into a big tree. Let us pray that there will be peace and unity with freedom and justice and that the rich natural and people resources will be used wisely and honestly for the betterment of the economy and a fairer distribution of wealth.
Formation Scripture:
"The parable of the mustard seed and the yeast
– Matthew 13:31-33 "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. Who despises the day of small things? Men will rejoice when they see the plumbline in the hand of Zerubbabel"
– Zech 4:8-10 - SOUTH AFRICA
Established: August 1990 Magaliesberg, SA
Founding Co-ordinator: Rosemary Raw
Inaugural AGM: July 1993, Pietermaritzburg
Current CDF Co-ordinator: Liesl Townsend
CDF South Africa was formed at the 1990 Valley Arts Festival, and continues to be active throughout the regions. In 1997 CDFSA hosted the third ICDF Conference entitled "Building The Temple", which was held in Pretoria.
CDFSA has the wonderful potential of networking worshippers from the many people groups across our country. This is clearly seen at our National Conferences. This year in 2008, we were involved in a travelling National Conference which moved around South Africa for a month organizing workshops. Our international teacher was David Stanfield and we also used local teachers in each centre as we passed through. Through sponsorship we were able to take the conference to the members instead of them having to fly up to the usual venue in Durban.”
Formation Scripture:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour"
– Luke 4:18-19 "That they may be one as we are one"
– John 17:11b
